The field-mapping schema is a collection of settings that define bonds between fields of synchronization level 1 in Microsoft Dynamics NAV and properties of level 1 in Outlook, between fields of level 3 synchronization in Microsoft Dynamics NAV and properties of level 3 in Outlook.

There are three levels of the synchronization. To be able to define field mapping, you should set up the first or the first and the second levels.
